Then & Now

The Sad Story (Then)

I was 22 years old, my boss was 20. He and his wife had decided to contribute as much as they could to their 401k (in addition to buying a home) so they could retire by 45. I thought it was a great idea! I ran home and told my boyfriend… We were living for free in his parents’ house and we owned three paid-off old cars. My boyfriend said No, we could do better with the money on our own. I listened to him. Almost a decade later I would start my life over with the $10k I’d saved up in a box.

In my next relationship, I received the same advice and followed the same path – except I ended that decade with 5-figure debt …and another restart on life.

The Happy Story (Now)

Half a decade has gone by since then and – in addition to recognizing (and resolving) some of my character defects – I have *gotten out of debt, *saved up an emergency fund, *begun saving for a down payment on a home or property, and *grown my 401k retirement account to a respectable start. I’ve accepted help and I’ve started giving back.

This site is an effort to share what I have learned in hopes that my experience will help others. I’ll share mindsets and resources that have worked for me. Take what you want and leave the rest.

Dave Ramsey (Total Money Makeover) and Robert G. Allen (Multiple Streams of Income) are two of the major influencers on my journey, and you will see their ideas woven throughout my story. I came up with this website as I was pondering Allen’s thoughts on money seeds in relation to the ‘tip dollar’ I was so accustomed to handing to drive-thru workers. As I started to see the potential in a single dollar bill, I wanted a way to share that good news with everyone working for tips. Then I started to look around and realized that there were many other people in my life that might appreciate and benefit from some of this information as well. After a couple more God-nudges, dollarseedsgrowmoneytrees.com was born.

May you, too, know financial freedom and the peace that comes with it!!

Sincerely,

Alicia
